According to a 2007 economic study of the lignite industry conducted by North Dakota State University economist Larry Leistritz, wages paid in the state's coal mining sector were the highest of any in North Dakota. In 2005, the average wage for coal mining exceeded $70,000, or 2.4 times that of all covered wages in the state. Jobs at the power plants followed closely with the average wage in 2005 over $69,000. |
