 Electrical Generation from ND Lignite
(Grade 4 to High School)

This 16-minute video describes the largest use of lignite from North Dakota - for electrical generation.  The videotape takes a look at what happens to coal mined in North Dakota, where the state's power plants are, how much power they produce and where they get their coal.  (Produced by Basin Electric Power Cooperative for the Lignite Energy Council.)

Lignite Mining and Reclamation
(Grade 4 to Junior High)

This 19-minute video reveals how lignite - a reliable and inexpensive source of energy - reduces the nation's dependence on foreign oil.  Eye-catching footage shot at some of North Dakota's largest lignite mines also answers questions about how lignite is produced safely and efficiently, and how reclamation practices restore mine land to an equal or better condition than existed prior to mining.  (Produced by MDU Resources Group for the Lignite Energy Council)

The Environment & Lignite Energy
(Grade 4 to High School)

This 19-minute video demonstrates the environmental stewardship of the lignite industry.  Topics addressed include land reclamation, methods of maintaining the quality of groundwater and air, the issue of global climate change and the opportunities electrotechnologies create for lignite-fired electricity.  (Produced by Minnkota Power Cooperative for the Lignite Energy Council)

Lignite Energy: It's Good for All of Us
(Grade 4 to High School)

This 9-minute video stresses the importance of lignite-fired energy to the region.  Video themes focus on - lignite energy: it's abundant; it's efficient; and it's good for the environment.  (Produced by Minnesota Power and Cooperative Power for the Lignite Energy Council)

Turning Coal Into Natural Gas
(Grade 4 to Junior High)

This 6-minute video uses animation to explain in easy-to-understand terms how the Great Plains Synfuels Plant near Beulah converts lignite into synthetic natural gas.  (Produced by Basin Electric Power Cooperative for the Lignite Energy Council)

Lignite Coal: An Energy Treasure
(Grade 4 to High School)

This 8-minute video addresses the significant role that the lignite industry has played in the history and development of North Dakota.  The video provides information on how lignite was first used in North Dakota; mostly for heating in the late 1800s and early-to-mid 1900s.  It also discusses the major growth of the industry in the last 30+ years as lignite is used to fuel seven power plants and the Great Plains Synfuels Plant.  (Produced by Basin Electric Power Cooperative for the Lignite Energy Council)

Lignite: An Educational Tour
(Grade 4 to High School)

This DVD includes all videos listed above divided into individual chapters.  Chapter 1 - Lignite Coal: An Energy Treasure; Chapter 2 - Lignite Mining and Reclamation; Chapter 3 - Electrical Generation from North Dakota Lignite; Chapter 4 - Turning Coal Into Natural Gas; Chapter 5 - The Environment & Lignite Energy; and Chapter 6 - "Lignite Energy: It's Good for All of Us."
