Coal haulers are used to transport the coal from the mine pit to the tipple. The tractor-trailers have the capacity to haul 100 to 300 tons per load. The trailers unload coal via “bottom dumps” by positioning over a hopper at the tipple. Some mines also use a conveyor belt system to transport coal from longer distances. |
